Heritage Quarries Recreation Area Volunteer Workday | April 28, 2018
CITGO Petroleum and The Conservation Foundation are pleased to announce our spring restoration project at the 100 acre Heritage Quarries Recreation Area in Lemont. These quarries provided the dolomite limestone used in many buildings in northeastern Illinois, including the Chicago Water Tower and Holy Name Cathedral. Over time, the quarries filled with water and are now a regional recreational resource.
Volunteers will help restore natural areas within the Heritage Quarries Recreation Area by removing invasive species. The goal of this project is to restore plant and animal diversity.
Long sleeved shirts, long pants and appropriate footwear are recommended. Please bring work gloves and a refillable water bottle. Tools will be provided.
