Odor Alert Network
Annoying Odors?

Lemont is the first municipality in Illinois to establish a management system, called the Odor Alert Network, to respond to odor complaints.

When residents notice outdoor odors they should:

  1. Immediately call 911 to submit the odor complaint.  Odor complaints can also be submitted by calling (630) 257-2376, ext. 222.
  2. The dispatcher who answers the phone will ask you to describe what the odor smells like along with a few other questions to help with the investigation.

All calls will receive a prompt response. The Network is often able to successfully resolve odor problems. Most odors are short-term (less than 24 hours) in duration. The key is to call immediately. Waiting longer than 15 minutes may be too late to identify the source unless the odor is prolonged.

The Lemont Odor Alert Network is one of the pioneering efforts in the United States to help reduce outdoor odor problems. It has successfully resolved the majority of odor complaints since its inception in 2005.
