Electrical Aggregation

Electric Aggregation
An Opportunity to Seek Lower Electric Bills

Municipal aggregation allows for a municipality to bundle all residential and small commercial accounts and collectively bid the accounts to suppliers in the hopes of offering a lower cost source of power for its customers. The residents of Lemont passed a referendum on March 20th authorizing the Village to engage in this process. To further take advantage of this aggregation process and achieve better rates for its residents, the Village will be working with the Will County Governmental League to pool the accounts of all communities in the group and bid together to achieve lower rates.  These communities consist of:

Beecher              Bolingbrook       Braidwood          Channahon         Coal City              Crete
Elwood                Frankfort           Homer Glen        Lemont               Peotone              Plainfield
Rockdale             Romeoville        Shorewood         Woodridge

From this, the Will Electric Aggregation Group (WEAG) was formed.  On July 19th, the WEAG selected First Energy Solutions as the new electric supplier for the Electric Aggregation Program which represents over 300,000 residents and small businesses.

Residents with questions can contact FirstEnergy Solutions online, by phone, or mail at:

Next Step

Eligible residential and small businesses customers will receive a letter in the mail with our Village name and logo on it.  The letter will state that FirstEnergy is the aggregation group supplier and will include the rate and term the group selected.  Customers wishing to participate in the program will not need to take any action to be included.  For those that do not want to participate in the Village program, or opt-out, the letter will explain the process for opting out as well as provide a number to call for any questions.  The mailing will also include a separate FAQ sheet.  Customers who desire to opt-out will be able to do so with no penalty for a 21-day period following postmark of the notice.  Once the 21-day period has passed, you will automatically be enrolled in the program.

Residents Currently with a Different Supplier (other than ComEd)

Those residents that have already selected a supplier other than ComEd will not receive a letter and will not automatically be included in the program.  Those wishing to participate in the Village's program should first contact their supplier to find out if you are subject to any termination fees.  If you then decide to participate in the Village's program, contact FirstEnergy Solutions and they will assist you.  Please note our program will not be implemented until September, so you must wait until FirstEnergy Solutions has the Village of Lemont in their system prior to cancelling your account with your existing supplier in order to sign up with them.  You are encouraged to contact your supplier and FirstEnergy Solutions on how to handle this transition.

FirstEnergy Solutions is available to answer any questions you may have.  Please feel free to contact them at 1-866-636-3749.
